Specimen Preparation for X-ray Fluorescence Workshop

On 12 – 14 October 2010, Specimen Preparation for X-ray Fluorescence workshop took place at headquarters. Attendees were instructed by John A. Anzelmo, Anzelmo & Associates; Larry Arias, Bruker AXS; and Richard Bostwick, SPEX SamplePrep LLC.

The instructors have great experience in the field and lectured on metals, liquids and powders. Attendees also performed hands-on specimen preparation exercises in ICDD’s well-equipped laboratory.

Rietveld Refinement & Indexing Workshop

ICDD offered a Basic Workshop in Rietveld Refinement from 18 – 20 October 2010, as well as an Advanced Rietveld Workshop from 21 – 22 October 2010. Students had the option of taking only the three-day basic workshop or attending both for a week of hands-on training.

Faculty for the Rietveld workshop included Cyrus Crowder, ICDD; John Faber, Emeritus, ICDD; Amy Gindhart, ICDD; Suri Kabekkodu, ICDD; James A. Kaduk, Poly Crystallography Inc.; Fangling Needham, ICDD;  and Joel Reid, ICDD.

One attendee, Taylor Sparks from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, received a tuition waiver for the Rietveld workshop.
