Minerals Subcommittee

1. Called to order at 3:10 p.m.

2. L. Bernstein appointed Minutes Secretary

3. Items:
a) Book Product.
Update provided by A. McDonald.
Highlights: 

i) Last book product (anticipated) to be issued by ICDD;
ii) 4600 cards to be included, 800 more than the previous product (up to Set 50);
iii) Hanawalt index, chemical name index, classification index and PDF number index to be included;
iv) New Mineral Classifications now included;
v) Format will be the same as that used in the previous product;
vi) Changes to individual cards will be that the name will now be positioned outside of the card, and phases not approved by the IMA will read, "mineral & mineral name not approved by IMA".

b) Alphabetical Mineral Task Group.
Update provided by A. Roberts.
Highlights:

 i) Group met June 13-15, 2001;
ii) Reviewed 166 mineral patterns.

c) Mineral Groups Task Group.
Update by A. McDonald.
Group met in March 2001 to revamp the mineral classification list. Excellent progress was made and while a few problems still exist, the list is in very good shape for publication.

d) Zeolite Task Group.
Report provided by Ron Medrud.
Highlights: 

i) Group met March 10-14, 2001;
ii) Added many IZA structure codes to the database;
iii) Corrected numerous errors;
iv) Reviewed ICSD zeolite data.

4. Motions:
1. The Minerals Subcommittee recommends to the Technical Committee that the patterns be calculated by headquarters for each of the Zeolite structure types not represented and then added to the PDF.

Passed unanimously.

2. The Minerals Subcommittee recommends to the Technical Committee that the resumption of putting Zeolite common names in the Comments Section of the PDF Card Image.

3. The Minerals Subcommittee recommends to the Technical
Committee that searching be allowed on zeolite structure types, similar to searching on a subfile.

Passed unanimously.

4. The Minerals Subcommittee recommends to the Technical Committee that $5,000.00 expense funds be allocated for the coming year. This money will cover two zeolite task group meetings at HQ for four people.

Passed unanimously.

5. The Minerals Subcommittee recommends to the Technical Committee that $6,000.00 be allocated to support the Minerals Task Group meeting in June 2001.
Moved by A. McDonald, seconded by A. Roberts.
Passed unanimously.

5. Other items.
i.) RDB. J. Faber gave a brief presentation of a test version of the product. He suggested that the Alphabetical Minerals Task Group review the RDB product. J. Messick talked about pricing of the two new products. There was then a discussion of the possible licensing fees for the RDB.
