The ICDD organized the 2nd Pharmaceutical Powder X-ray Diffraction Symposium, PPXRD-2, which was held in Concordville, Pennsylvania, USA on 9-12 December 2002. Hosting over 70 participants, the symposium focused on high-throughput crystallization and screening, polymorph characterization, and powder pattern indexing. The attendance was truly international with half the participants coming from 12 different countries. The first three days were dedicated to technical sessions and round table discussions; a companion, hands-on workshop, held on the last day at ICDD Headquarters in nearby Newtown Square, concluded the symposium.

ICDD Workshop Held in Brazil

A three-day ICDD workshop was held in conjunction with the SARX 2002 Conference, VIII Seminario Latino-Americano de Analisespor Technicas de Raios X, 25, 26, and 28 November 2002, in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Led by Tom Blanton, Eastman Kodak Company, NY and Miguel Delgado, Universidad de Los Andes, Venezuela, the workshop focused on the ICDD organization, the PDF®, fundamentals of XRD, industrial applications of XRD, Grants-in-Aid, and the PDF-4 and PDF-2 databases. Approximately 35 attendees participated in the workshop.

2003 Ludo Frevel Crystallography Scholarship Recipients
The Ludo Frevel Crystallography Scholarship Committee has selected six recipients for the 2003 program. These recipients were selected, on a competitive basis, from 34 well-deserving applications received by the ICDD Scholarship Committee. Click here to see the recipients.

The ICDD presented each of these students with a check in the amount of $2,250 to help them continue their studies in their selected fields of crystallographic research.

Convinced of the beneficial, scientific impact of the proposed scholarships for crystallographically oriented research, the ICDD has solicited funds from private and industrial sectors to support this program. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, please contact Donna Barry (barry@icdd.com).

Since the scholarship program's inception in 1991, over $107,000 has been awarded to 51 aspiring crystallographers.

Training

Why choose the ICDD Clinics? The purpose of the XRF and XRD clinics is to combine theoretical knowledge and practical applications of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and X-ray powder diffractometry, respectively. Each clinic utilizes a team of instructors, selected from both academia and industry, representing a broad range of expertise, sure to meet your training needs. Denver X-ray Conference

The 52nd Annual Denver X-ray Conference will take place at the Denver Marriott Tech Center Hotel, Denver, Colorado, 4 - 8 August 2003. Organized by Michael Mantler of the Vienna University of Technology, Vienna, Austria, this year's Plenary Session will focus on "X-ray Studies of Art & Archaeological Objects."
