The ICDD Nominating Committee, consisting of Bob Snyder, Chairman, George Havrilla, Brian O'Connor, David Rafaja, and Frank Rotella, has been charged with the responsibility of selecting a slate of candidates for the six Board of Directors' positions open for election in 2004: Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Chairman of the Technical Committee, and 3 Directors-at-Large. Member Spotlight

The Austrian Academy of Sciences has awarded Ekkehart Tillmanns their highest prize, the Erwin Schroedinger-Prize for 2002. The prize was given with regard to Dr. Tillmanns' scientific contributions to mineralogical crystallography and includes prize money of EUR 15,000. Congratulations!

Upcoming Awards -- Recognize our talented members and colleagues!

• Do you know someone whose distinguished work has improved the Inorganic Powder Diffraction File? Submit his or her name to be considered for the 2004 McMurdie Award! 
  Tell me about the submission process.

• A scientist whose important recent contributions to the field of powder diffraction will be selected as the recipient of the 2004 Hanawalt Award. The award recipient will submit an abstract and present a paper on the work being recognized at an appropriate powder diffraction or crystallographic meeting. Do you know someone worthy of this honor? Submit your candidate for consideration.

• ICDD Fellows who have given long and meritorious service to the ICDD can be granted the title of Distinguished Fellow. This annual award will be presented at the next Annual Meeting of Members in March 2004. If you are an ICDD Fellow and would like to nominate a candidate for this prestigious honor, complete a Nomination Form by 1 September 2003.

Announcing a new student online subscription rate for Powder Diffraction

The ICDD is introducing a new Student Online Subscription Rate for Powder Diffraction, the annual rate is $35.00. 
Tell me more about Powder Diffraction. 

• Nearly 273,000 material data sets! (with patterns)
• 34 million d-spacings
• 530,000 literature citations from 1,602 journals

New meeting format - a great success! For the first time in the ICDD's history, a new meeting format was introduced to maximize member interactions. A Plenary session, a poster session, and a tour of historical Philadelphia were added to the typical schedule of committee, subcommittee, and task groups meetings. Based on attendee feedback, you'll be seeing more of this format in years to come!

• The ICDD's Editor-in-Chief, Frank McClune, was named a Distinguished Fellow at the Annual Meeting of Members. Frank's 34 years of diligent service to the ICDD was recognized and applauded! The official award will be presented at the upcoming Denver X-ray Conference.
• Several awards, recognizing the contributions of our Editors and Consulting Editors to our various PDF products, were announced and presented to those in attendance:
