March Meetings 2009

Don’t miss the upcoming ICDD Spring Meetings. Here are some of this year’s sessions and activities that we have planned:

Plenary Session, March 24:

Emerging Capabilities in Powder Diffraction
Developments in generators, optics, high-speed and high-resolution detectors, combined with increasing processing power and storage capability in PCs, are enabling new fields of analysis and an expansion of capabilities in X-ray powder diffraction. The four plenary speakers will address emerging fields, and the challenges in analyzing and interpreting diffraction data.

Dr. Vaclav Petříček from the Institute of Physics ASCR, Czech Republic and Dr. Artem Abakumov from EMAT, University of Antwerp, Belgium will discuss the science of modulated structures and their analysis. Dr. Robert Von Dreele, Argonne National Laboratory, USA will discuss the challenges of analyzing biological materials and proteins by powder diffraction. ICDD’s Dr. Diane Sagnella will demonstrate a new program designed to input, review and standardize data from a very wide range of instruments and data types.

March Meetings 2009

Social Event, Technical Poster Session, and Reception, March 24:

An Exploration of Ridley Creek State Park & Hunting Hill Mansion
Members and guests are invited to join us for an afternoon of discovery in our neighboring Ridley Creek State Park. The park’s historic past is told through its gently rolling hills, historic relics and buildings, tranquil walking trails and 18th century living history farm.

First, we’ll take a step back into historic rural Pennsylvania with a tour of The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation. Experience life on an 18th century farm through a guided tour with colonial re-enactors.

After the tour, we’ll venture over to stately Hunting Hill Mansion for music, a scientific poster session, cocktails and dinner.

This year, we will be entertained by one of Philadelphia’s Mummers clubs, The Fralinger String Band. The Mummers are a long-standing Philadelphia tradition of costumed entertainers who welcome in the New Year by participating in a New Year’s Day parade. Mummers String Bands are known not only for their elaborate costumes, but also their unique sound. Experience the contagious music of The Fralinger String Band, Philadelphia’s 2009 top prize winner, with their lively musical talents, followed by dinner, networking, and scientific posters discussions.  Speaking of the poster session, it’s not too late to submit your abstract and reserve a space for your poster. Visit for details.
