Press Release 020205/145 - 2005 Ludo Frevel Crystallography Scholarship Recipients
 

The ICDD Ludo Frevel Crystallography Scholarship Committee has selected six recipients for the 2005 Scholarship Program. These recipients were selected, on a competitive basis, from thirty-seven commendable applications received by the ICDD Scholarship Committee. The recipients are:

  • Jason Benedict of University of Washington, Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. with exploration into “Dyeing Crystals: 19th Century Phenomenology to 21st Century Material Science Technology”
  • Gali Golan of The Hebrew University of Israel, Jerusalem, Israel with research concerning “Structure-Function Relationships in DNA-Repair Enzymes”
  • Katherine Hull of University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, U.S.A. with major interest in “Synthesis and Structural Analysis of Semiconductor Nanowires”
  • Jun Luo of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, P.R. China with research involving “Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of Rare Earth-Cobalt Compounds with TbCu7-Type Structure”
  • I. Ahmad Mirza of McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada with studies focusing on “Structural Characterization of Novel Antifungal Targets and Enzymes Involved in Bioremediation”
  • Kimberly Tait of The University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, U.S.A. who’s research is entitled “Investigations into the Stability, Morphology and the Crystal Structure of the Coexistence of Structure I and Structure II Methane-ethane Clathrate Hydrates – Occurrence and Geological Implications”

The ICDD will present each of these students with a check in the amount of $2,250 to assist in the continuation of studies in their selected fields of crystallographic research.
