ICDD Press Release

Announcing the Ludo Frevel Crystallographic Scholarship FUNDRAISER

December 17, 2013

The Ludo Frevel Crystallographic Scholarship is an award to support the education and research program of promising graduate students in crystallography-related fields. Since 1991, the ICDD has awarded 148 scholarships to aspiring crystallographers. As part of our arrangement with the original scholarship founders, the Frevel family, ICDD places 100% of all donations into the scholarship endowment, and the scholarship endowment are 100% directed toward paying scholarships. In recent years, a prolonged period of low interest rates has meant that the endowment no longer generates enough interest income to be self-supporting.

To support this worthy cause, as well as celebrate the International Year of Crystallography, ICDD has initiated its first crystallography scholarship fund drive in 22 years. The science of crystallography has played a key role in the development of X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction and neutron diffraction for the elucidation of the atomic structure of matter. Today’s crystallographers, and scholarship recipients, are working on new energy sources, advanced electronics, catalysts, cultural heritage, new medicines, environmental remediation and studying the fundamental use of nanomaterials as molecular machines.

Help ICDD ensure that we will have future generations of crystallographers. For more information, or to make a donation, please visit: www.icdd.com/frevel/index.html.
