PDF-2 Release 2018 of the Powder Diffraction File contains 298,258 entries from the ICDD experimental powder data collection, as well as data collected, edited and standardized from the NIST and FIZ databases. PDF-2 is designed for inorganic materials analyses using automated diffractometers. PDF-2 Release 2018 features user-friendly capabilities, including our integrated data mining software. This software provides more display, search, and data filtering capabilities using 53 display fields and 68 searches. Each entry contains a table of interplanar d-spacings, and relative intensities and most contain Miller indices as well. Additional information, such as chemical formula, compound name, mineral name, structural formula, crystal system, physical data, experimental parameters and references are included when known. Each entry has undergone rigorous editorial review and has been indexed for subfile searches.

PDF-2 incorporates the historic Powder Diffraction File on CD. This database has been integrated into the software systems of every major manufacturer of X-ray diffraction equipment. Together with the OEM’s data analysis software, the PDF gives scientists local PC-based high-speed analysis capability enabling materials identification in top laboratories around the globe. PDF-2 is licensed for 5 years.

PDF-2 Release 2018 is contained on one DVD, which is compatible with a PC platform. PDF-2 needs to be housed on your hard drive. Retrieval software, such as ICDD's integrated display software or developers' software, must be used to convert the data from PDF-2 into readable forms. Check with your software supplier to confirm software compatibility when purchasing or renewing to Release 2018. Retrieval software offering search/match capabilities is available from ICDD's licensed distributors and equipment manufacturers.

ICDD's data mining software is integrated into all PDF products. This software provides more display, search, and data filtering capabilities for the PDF-2 format of the Powder Diffraction File. Customers can take advantage of our data mining options using 53 display fields and 68 searches. Search criteria in our data mining software can also be used to focus the results of SIeve search-indexing onto user-defined subsets of PDF entries.

SIeve
SIeve, ICDD's search indexing software, provides rapid searching and identification using highly automated Hanawalt, Fink and Long-8 searches. SIeve takes advantage of the dynamic computing power of modern PCs to rapidly perform permuted searches on hundreds of thousands of data entries. This enables permutations with Fink and Long-8 algorithms that are impractical with print due to their enormous size. Another feature is automatic rotation of the  8 strongest lines (Hanawalt) or the 8 longest of the strongest lines (Fink) or the 8 long lines (Long 8) to look for matches that exhibit the best Goodness of Match (GOM). We have implemented a “Pattern GOM” that provides a comparison, much like the paper manuals, whereby all the lines in the unknown pattern must be matched against all the lines in the reference pattern(s). The SIeve display allows a further comparison between the standard GOM and the Pattern GOM.
SIeve works with either input d/I pairs or electronic files that contain d or two-theta/I data. A flexible text importer can read a wide variety of input files; any number of d/I pairs can be imported. SIeve is linked with Global searches and Search Preferences from our integrated viewing software. This means that a user can custom define a SIeve input filter based on any of the search method classes or combinations thereof. The results of SIeve can also be integrated into search criteria in our viewing software.
