PDF Databases not impacted by Log4j Vulnerabilities

In response to the recently discovered vulnerability in the Log4j library, code that is commonly used by many Java programs, ICDD has performed a thorough investigation of our PDF databases. We have concluded that our PDF databases are not impacted by this vulnerability.

PDF 2018 and newer databases use Log4j 1.x.

  • Software using Log4j 1.x that is not configured to use JMSAppender (which is the default behavior) is not impacted by these vulnerabilities.
  • ICDD has audited the PDF software and have found no evidence that JMSAppender is configured and can conclude that PDF software is not impacted by these vulnerabilities.

From the Log4j website (https://logging.apache.org/log4j/2.x/security.html):

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide communication updates as needed. Please contact Justin Blanton for additional questions or concerns.

Windows 10 Patch

ICDD has made available a two-step software patch for customers that plan to update their computer with an installed ICDD database to Windows 10.
ICDD DATABASE WITH WINDOWS 10 UPDATE – SOFTWARE PATCH PROGRAMS NOW AVAILABLE

      • New Windows 10 Computer
ICDD database releases 2010 to 2015 will work on NEW computers with Windows 10.
Please note: Re-installing previously registered databases onto a new Windows 10 computer will require you to reregister your database. See registration information below.
      • Upgrading Your Computer with an Installed ICDD Database
ICDD has made available a two-step software patch for customers that plan to update their computer with an installed ICDD database to Windows 10.
PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE UPGRADING YOUR COMPUTER TO WINDOWS 10.

If you are upgrading your computer from Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 to Windows 10, and the computer currently has an installed ICDD database, you will need to run ICDD’s two-step patch programs. Both patch programs must be run (one before upgrading and one after upgrading) to ensure that your ICDD database (Release 2010 – Release 2015) will continue to work after you have upgraded.

Step 1: The first patch program (ICDD_1_Windows10_PrePatch.exe) must be run using an account with administrative privileges before upgrading to Windows 10.
Step 2: The second patch program (ICDD_2_Windows10_PostPatch.exe) must be run using an account with administrative privileges after upgrading to Windows 10.

Please note: If the first patch program is not run before upgrading to Windows 10, then you will have to re-install your PDF database using the original installation disc(s) and re-register.

See: https://www.icdd.com/registration-process/ for registration information.
